Adding A Featured Image To A Page In Genesis

After looking around the web for a good tutorial, I really couldn’t find what that accomplished what I was looking to do.

It sounds simple. I want to add a featured image to a page in Genesis. No problem right? Not exactly. Genesis doesn’t work like a normal wordpress site, but then if you are reading this post, you probably already know that.

So after reading a bunch of complicated tutorials that didn’t work, I stumbled on one that wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, but gave me a new direction to try.

So we need to add this to our functions.php file. Always make a back up first.

So Here it is:
First we have to create the image size we want. In my case I wanted one that was 960px wide and 150px high.

add_image_size( 'featured-single', 960, 150, TRUE );

The TRUE means it can be cropped.

Next we have to add the following code:

add_filter ( 'genesis_before_content_sidebar_wrap', 'your_custom_header' );

function your_custom_header () {
echo '

';

}

So we are using a filter to display our new “featured-single” in a function called your_custom_header.

You can put it wherever you want. The visual hook guide is very helpful.

In my case I put I wanted to put it before the content, but you can put it wherever you want.

Very simple. It took a lot of searching to find this, but I am happy now that it works.

Testing FireFox 4 beta

By Dave Fogel | January 26, 2011

So I have spent a little bit of time testing the firefox 4.0 beta. So far I really like it. It is very fast and seems to work much better than 3.6. I am looking forward to trying it with more plugins as they become available.
