After looking around the web for a good tutorial, I really couldn’t find what that accomplished what I was looking to do.
It sounds simple. I want to add a featured image to a page in Genesis. No problem right? Not exactly. Genesis doesn’t work like a normal wordpress site, but then if you are reading this post, you probably already know that.
So after reading a bunch of complicated tutorials that didn’t work, I stumbled on one that wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, but gave me a new direction to try.
So we need to add this to our functions.php file. Always make a back up first.
So Here it is:
First we have to create the image size we want. In my case I wanted one that was 960px wide and 150px high.
add_image_size( 'featured-single', 960, 150, TRUE );
The TRUE means it can be cropped.
Next we have to add the following code:
add_filter ( 'genesis_before_content_sidebar_wrap', 'your_custom_header' );
function your_custom_header () {
echo '
echo the_post_thumbnail( 'featured-single' );
echo '
';
}
So we are using a filter to display our new “featured-single” in a function called your_custom_header.
You can put it wherever you want. The visual hook guide is very helpful.
In my case I put I wanted to put it before the content, but you can put it wherever you want.
Very simple. It took a lot of searching to find this, but I am happy now that it works.
Google Panda 3.3
Google released Panda 3.3 update in February. Though 40 updates were done, we haven’t seen any change in ranks for the website we do SEO for. What stands out the most to me is: Link evaluation. We often use characteristics of links to help us figure out the topic of a linked page. We have…

Well, it’s official. Matt Cutts, the head of Google’s Web spam team, says that SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is not spam. This is not a big surprise to many of use that have been in the industry a lot time, but it helps justify what we do to clients who are not really sure if…
WP-Admin goes blank
This can be a serious problem and mean one of your plugins has caused a lot of problems with your site. It is a scary experience when you cannot log in to your own site. That being said, try this first. Look at your functions.php file and find any empty spaces at the top or…
